Abstract
This book is an ambitious attempt to describe and analyse multilingualism in the global Chinese diaspora. It features 17 chapters contributed by established and emerging scholars who adopt a wide range of conceptual and methodological approaches. It also covers Chinese communities in many geographical areas, including some which are under-rep- resented in the existing literature. In this sense, it makes a worthy contribution to our under- standing of the global Chinese diaspora, but the variation in the quality of the individual chapters and some editorial issues detract from this achievement.
