Abstract
Fluid inflow is the established method of providing distension, visualization, and irrigation of the joint. The fluid also has a cooling effect to the joint if cautery is used. However, the surgeon must be wary of excessive swelling and extravasation, which can also hinder conversion to open surgery because of edematous tissue planes.
