Abstract

In 2020, the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, health care workers across the globe faced unprecedented challenges in managing the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 is an infectious respira­tory illness caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Yirus, which was first identified in December 2019 in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. In the months that followed, COVID-19 spread to every inhabited conti­nent. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on 11 March 2020 (World Health Organization, 2020).
