Abstract

This research project was initiated by Community Centres SA (CCSA), the peak body for 110 Community Centres and Neighbourhood Houses across SA. At their heart, Community Centres exist to empower local communities to have a voice and build meaningful social connections. By engaging Flinders University to undertake this research, CCSA has supported the community centre sector in ongoing reflective practice about how it can best address loneliness evident in many of the 35,000 people that participate in local place-based community spaces each week. We thank CCSA, and in particular their CEO Kylie Fergusen for her commitment to improving the lives of South Australian’s who work, volunteer and utilise community centres by developing partnerships to produce research informed best-practice.
