Abstract
In 2006 South Australia announced Education Works (Government of South
Australia, 2006a), a reform resulting in the closure of under-performing or
dilapidated schools and the amalgamation of others. New Birth to Year 12 ‘Super
Schools’ was created as ‘one stop shops’ for parents (Government of South
Australia, 2006b, p. 6). Education Works resulted in the co-location of one special
school and led to subsequent co-locations across the state. Previously isolated
special schools were resituated alongside large mainstream schools, creating
fresh opportunities for new relationships between schools and students.
