Abstract

Expressing emotion through dance predates language. Along with many other creative practitioners, I write/dance/write. Movement and music free my thinking but especially in crises. While most of us do not dance forward to spear our enemies’ throats, during Melbourne’s Covid-19 lockdowns, online dance and kick boxing set to music bring me strength. When tension tautens our bodies, dancing releases endorphins that prevent us hurting ourselves or others. It offers creativity and release.
