Abstract

As a journal, we recently received the disappointing and perplexing news that Clarivate (the company responsible for running the Web of Science) has decided that Forensic Science International: Genetics will not be receiving a Journal Impact Factor (JIF) in this year’s release of the Journal Citations Report (JCR). This is a consequence of what Clarivate perceives to be atypical levels of self-citation in comparison to other journals in the same categories as FSI Genetics. In this editorial, we outline why we believe this does not take into account the specific context of FSI Genetics, being a highly specialized journal, and also underline why FSI Genetics remains the leader in disseminating high-quality research in the field.
