N2 - eCourse is a courseware management system designed to foster the development of a teaching and learning paradigm that caters for on-campus, online, on-shore and offshore students and partners. It is an ongoing action research project within the School of Computer and Information Science (SGS,), at Edith Cowan University (ECU), Western Australia. While eCourse has similar features to other systems such as BlackBoard and WebCT it has been tailored, in collaboration with academic and technical staff and an instructional designer, to meet the specific needs of SCYS. eCourse provides a teaching and learning framework that is evolving in accordance with School and University strategic planning goals, while meeting students `social and academic needs. The article will discuss management, social and equity issues; developing an online learning community and culture using discussion forums; and some of the issues and benefits associated with a whole school approach to the delivery of online education.
