Abstract

This paper examines the overload performance of induction motors for traction applications using an analytical d-q equivalent circuit considering magnetic saturation. An experimental no-load test has been used to evaluate the stator total flux linkage to predict the torque vs speed and shaft power vs speed characteristics of a commercial 2.2-kW totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) squirrel-cage induction motor (SCIM) over a wide speed range. Finite element analysis (FEA) was used for validation of the analytical method. The paper uses the analytical equivalent circuit method to accurately predict the overload performance and efficiency maps of induction motors.
