Abstract
In this article I discuss the problem of students not choosing physics because it is not considered a good career move. I argue that we need realise that there are students who will choose a course based on career opportunities and that we need to demonstrate to prospective students that physics has practical applications that have a huge impact on society and provide good employment opportunities. To demonstrate my point I give the details of how the Doppler effect is used in global satellite navigation systems.
