Abstract

Marco Polo (1254–1324) was a Venetian merchant and explorer who was the first European to leave a detailed record of his journey to Mongol China. Polo’s sights and deeds were recorded in the famous chronicle The Travels of Marco Polo (Livres des Merveilles du Monde, ca. 1300). Marco Polo’s Travels was not authored by Polo himself, but rather by Rustichello Da Pisa, while Pisa was imprisoned with Polo in Genoa.
