Power UP: Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa) Language Development Report

Research output: Book/ReportCommissioned report

Abstract

This report outlines the findings and recommendations from the remote communities adaptation phase of the Power UP e-safety program, co-produced by Centacare and CSI Flinders, with significant contributions from CatholicCare NT and Power Communities. The program aims to enhance online safety for young people.

In May 2024, focus groups with young people aged 12-14 and interviews with their teachers were conducted in Ltyentye Apurte, Alice Springs. The purpose of these discussions was to assess the relevance of Power UP test modules for young people in Santa Teresa and to identify the language requirements for the Power UP e-safety program in remote communities.

It is essential to align the design of the Power UP modules with the needs of the Santa Teresa community. Key findings indicate that all topics and content from the foundational stage are relevant to young people in remote areas. However, additional concerns specific to these communities must be addressed, particularly the adaptation of modules into community languages.

A series of recommendations is provided to guide the adaptation of the Power UP e-safety program, aiming to foster a safer online environment for young individuals living in remote communities.
