Abstract
The election of Donald Trump took the world by surprise. Trump won the us presidential election by presenting a foreign policy program emphasizing a strong sense of national affiliation. Many allied countries and political commentators are worried that Trump might embark on a tem‑porary reversal of traditional American internationalism or even endanger the liberal global order. The initial months of Trump’s presidency reveal a foreign policy marked by incoherence. The article argues that the policy incohe‑rence results from Trump’s leadership style. More precisely, the article presents a profile of Trump’s leadership style based on an analysis of his aspi‑ration for power, sense of efficacy and competence, cognitive complexity, emotional intelligence, and political experience and skill.
