Abstract

This book represents the culmination of several years’ work connected to our interest in the developing relationship between the Middle East region and the West and aligned countries, in particular Australia, which is the location of two of the three editors of this collection.

The original impetus for this collection arose out of a grant provided by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Council for Australian–Arab Relations (CAAR) in 2022. The grant was to promote Arab–Australian bilateral capacity-building in business, education, and the legal profession. That project followed an earlier grant from CAAR to support trade and corporate law comparisons between Australia and the Arab world. These projects produced workshops, conferences, and international hybrid events which brought together industry and community members, as well as academics working on aligned themes.
