Abstract

Many works have decried the lack of visibility of research from what is referred to
as the “global south” and highlighted reasons for this gap in the field. For example,
Demeter (2020) suggests that even when issues impacting countries in the “global
south” specifically are addressed, there is an over-representation of “global north”
scholars. This has also been our observation in the language learning and teaching
literature in general (e.g., Rose et al., 2021) as well as more specifically in the
Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) literature.
