Abstract

KEY POINTS
•The term Preiser’s disease should be used exclusively to describe idiopathic avascular necrosis of
the scaphoid.
•Preiser’s disease is rare and the natural history is not fully understood.
•After history and clinical examination,CT (4D), MRI and arthoscopy have an important role in the
assessment of the scaphoid, surrounding carpus and any associated carpal instability.
•Management should be based on patient factors as well as the stage of the disease within the
scaphoid and the surrounding wrist.
