Abstract
The synthesis and some properties of N-(pyrrol-1-yl)maleimide (1) and its isomer (6) are described. The structure of 2-(pyrrol-1-yl)-4, 7-dihydro-4, 7-epoxyisoindole-l, 3(7aH, 3aH)-dione (8), a key intermediate in the synthesis of (1), has been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction at 298 K, and refined by least squares to a residual of 0·046 for 1977 'observed' reflections. Crystals are tri-clinic, P1, a 8·472(5), b 10·130(6), c 12·760(8) Å, α 91·12(5), β 92·09(5), γ 102·90(4)°, Z 4.
