Abstract

This two part session examined serious adverse outcomes in four individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) across Australia, determining contributing factors that were patient, practitioner, and system based. The focus then shifted to the “bigger picture,” presenting vulnerabilities uncovered by the Crohn's and Colitis Australia Audit such as a nationally inconsistent care structure and a lack of resources. Opportunities to address these challenges were then discussed, including a live demonstration of the Australian and New Zealand IBD Consortium developed Clinical Management Software and a summary of current initiatives from the Australian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Association (AIBDA) to improve the quality of IBD care in Australia, as well as the patient experience.
