Abstract
This article on qualitative data management explores the issues surrounding data management, in particular the impact of: different design approaches; frames and framing; the positions the researcher can take; and the role of the reader. The impact of these aspects on researcher decisions regarding how data are to be treated in terms of degrees of segmentation or intactness are addressed Practical examples of the processes of preliminary data analysis, thematic analysis, and coding are given and the debates surrounding computer management of qualitative data are also investigated in some depth.
