Regional housing availability and affordability social and economic impacts: Snapshot review

Research output: Book/Report › Commissioned report

    Abstract

The regional housing and homelessness sector has undergone many changes in recent years. In South Australia, this has included the introduction of the SA Homelessness Alliances system. Yet, ongoing housing supply and affordability challenges persist in most housing markets across the country.
Contemporary conditions in terms of reduced supply and increased demand and costs have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, environmental and other conditions such as supply chain disruptions and associated costs in building materials, floods and bushfires, as well as labour shortages, increased transport and energy costs. The aim of this snapshot review is to gain an understanding of the current status of affordable housing supply and demand and the likely social and economic effects of this across the UCSA footprint. This snapshot will contribute to understanding how housing supply and demand affects regional social and economic development.
