Abstract

I write to offer comment on the review article (Luakenen et al., 2019) regarding nurses' attitudes to the use of containment methods in psychiatric inpatient care. This informative review addressed the available evidence on nurses' attitudes towards containment methods in psychiatric settings. The authors are accurate in identifying the need in future research to define ‘attitude’ clearly so that research findings can be compared more easily. Further, the paper stresses the need to focus on changing attitudes among nursing staff in regard to the use of seclusion. However, I take issue with this final statement and will the elucidate my reasons here.
