HIS IS THE EXTRAORDINARY MEMOIR OF AN EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN.
Devaki Jain knew Iris Murdoch, Gloria Steinem, Julius Nyerere, and Nelson Mandela. Born in 1934, while still in her early twenties she travelled alone across India to meet Gandhi's disciple Vinoba Bhave, hitchhiked around Europe in a sari, and fell in love (briefly) with a Yugoslav at a Quaker camp in Saarbriicken. She later became a leading feminist figure in transforming economics in India and other developing countries.
