Abstract
Kenneth Morgan writes that this book‘is a fresh appraisal of Matthew Flinders’ career using for the first time the full range of documentary material available on his career’. Morgan,Professor of History at Brunel University in London, has recently edited Matthew Flinders’ Investigator log books, published by the Hakluyt Society in 2015 under the title Australia Circumnavigated. The book under review is a biographical work drawing on this source, along with many other primary and secondary documents. Morgan has focused his attention on Flinders as a navigator and leader of a scientific expedition rather than on his personal life.
