Abstract

This monograph represents a revision of Jacob Paxy Alumkal’s PhD thesis, which was completed in 2013at the University of Luzern under Professor Walter Kirchschläger.Alumkal states that this work is an exegetical and theological study on 1 Cor 5:6–8 that utilizes a combination of historical-critical and canonical methods to argue uniquely that Paul is “speaking of a Passover theology rather than a sacrificial theology” (23). While this is the heart of Alumkal’s thesis, his larger purpose is to argue the significance of a Passover theology for Paul’s wider Christology and soteriology.
