Abstract
A new decade and 2020 began with devastating bushfires burning out of control across three states in Australia: New South Wales, Victoria and my own state, South Australia. Despite the mounting evidence around Australia's climate becoming hotter and drier year‐on‐year, we have watched incredulously as politicians return from holidays to stand in front of community firefighters and volunteers promising that they will rebuild those communities that have been devastated by such disasters.
