Abstract

Scalable continuous wave Nd:YAG slab laser using a stable-unstable resonator was presented. Subscale design verification experiments used a total of 100 W pump power from 144 smaller diameter optical fibers. Numerical aperture of each optical fiber was 0.22, the output power was approximately 19 W and produced a total pump power of 500 W. Power scaling resulted in output power saturation at pump powers above 250 W due to loss of horizontal mode control.
