Setting critical care Research Agendas: A new article type in ICCN

The field of critical care nursing is dynamic, complex, ever-evolving, and demanding that research efforts are both strategic and responsive to the most pressing clinical needs. In this context, we are delighted to introduce a new article type, “Research Agendas in Critical Care”, together with the publication of a landmark paper by Beerens et al. on research priorities for the prevention of delirium in ICU patients. This inaugural Research Agenda article addresses one of the most challenging and consequential issues in critical care. Through a modified Delphi process involving an international panel of experts, the authors systematically identified and prioritised key research questions in ICU delirium prevention, providing a clear roadmap for future investigations. This article exemplifies the approach we envision for future submissions. By launching this new article type, we aim to systematically identify and communicate consensus-based research priorities that will guide the future of critical care nursing, ensuring that resources are directed toward areas of greatest impact.
