Abstract

Commonly, in the first few hours or days after surgery patients develop moderate to severe pain (McNicol et al., 2018). Suboptimal perioperative analgesia given during this time may adversely affect quality of life, functioning, and time to recovery, and may increase the risk of developing acute postsurgical complications or persistent postsurgical pain (McNicol et al., 2018). To provide optimal clinical outcomes it is useful to know the effectiveness of different analgesic drugs and their doses.
