Abstract

Cultural production by Indigenous Australian artists represents a major industry in Australia. In this essay, I examine some of the terms on which this work is acknowledged. In practice, the critical reception of cultural production by Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists is a site where the political struggles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait people confront the subject and power positions of Eurocentric critical commentary.
