Abstract

Humanity’s use of outer space has been rapidly expanding in recent years alongside significant and sustained reductions in the cost of getting assets into the Earth’s orbit. This has led to outer space becoming a viable domain for business, with everyone from entrepreneurs through to large established businesses looking to orbit as an opportunity for new activities and revenue streams. The commercialisation of Earth’s orbit has led the massive increases in the volume of data collected by the satellites that circle the Earth as frequently as every 90 mins. The data collected by these satellites now feeds into every part of the modern economy, everything from maps to exercise tracking apps, agricultural optimisation services to bushfire detection systems...
