Abstract
This special issue on History and Heritage explores exciting new directions in heritage practice and interpretation, and the intersections between heritage studies and Australian history. In line with recent scholarly thinking in the field of critical heritage studies, this issue features articles that historicise and extend mainstream notions of heritage beyond sites and movable objects, to explore broader questions around cultural knowledges, performance, memory and memorialisation, and affect. It also examines the impact of digital media on how we understand the past, and the importance of new negotiations with communities and technologies in the representation and interrogation of heritage sites and material culture.
