Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected global tourism, including Indonesia. However, there is hope for the improvement of tourism in the future. Ecotourism is considered a product that can be a solution. Burung Indonesia is the main ecotourism operator in Flores, with activities located in the Mbeliling area, approximately 50 km from Labuan Bajo. This study aims to evaluate the management of ecotourism in Mbeliling, Flores, by referring to the overall criteria and indicators required by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) v2.0. The method used is a descriptive qualitative formative evaluation in applied social research. Data collection was carried out through comprehensive observation and in-depth interviews for five days in the field. Secondary data were obtained through documentation, historical comparison, and supported by quantitative non-reactive data. In the next stage, the analysis of research is more focused on the descriptive analysis of literature. The results of the study showed unsatisfactory results for the managers. These evaluation results should serve as a reference for future improvements to become superior ecotourism operators in accordance with sustainable tourism practices.
