Abstract
In total, 283 full-text studies were assessed for eligibility, and 214 of these were excluded. Thus, 69 studies were included in this review. The systematic review of the previous research on women in coaching showed that there are many barriers and markedly fewer supports for female sport coaches worldwide.
Sport participation opportunities for women and girls continue to increase, yet
women are still underrepresented in leadership positions at all levels. Globally,
female sport coaches are a statistical minority in most sports. However, very little of this research had been conducted in Australia, and there was no research that had specifically focused on tennis. Supports and barriers were reported across individual, interpersonal, organisational and sociocultural dimensions, indicating that initiatives to support female tennis coaches should target each of these dimensions rather than only focusing on a select one or two.
