Abstract
The Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) 2020 Clinical Practice Guideline for Diabetes Management in Chronic Kidney Disease Work Group1 agrees with the statement by Fonseca et al.2 that hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) may be unreliable in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). In addition to hyperglycemia, patients with advanced CKD are at an increased risk of hypoglycemia, and measures that more precisely reflect blood glucose levels are needed.
