Abstract

Chemical analysis of rhodizite from Ambatofinandrahana, in the Ankarata Mts, Madagascar, gave the formula: (K0.46Cs0.36Rb0.06Na0.02)Al3.99Be4(B11.35Be0.55Li0.02)O28. High-resolution EM showed that the distribution of alkali cations is truly random; the distribution of B and Be was monitored by magic angle spinning NMR which showed that these atoms are located in chemically equivalent sites. The structure was refined by single-crystal XRD; it is cubic, a 7.318 A, space group P43m; the basic structure as determined by Taxer & Buerger (M.A. 19-269) is confirmed - 4 Be occupy a 4e special position, the remaining 0.5 being randomly distributed with the 11.35 B atoms over the 12 h sites.-R.A.H.
