Abstract

The science fiction cult classic The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), inspired by a 1940 Harry Bates short story, scripted by Edmund H. North, and directed by Robert Wise, concerned the UFO arrival of a noble, extra-terrestrial humanoid Klaatu (Michael Rennie), a superior biological mirror of humankind who subtextually functioned as a Christ-figure to underpin this saviour tale (Kozlovic 2021a). Klaatu was making official first contact with humanity as the alien emissary of an interplanetary Federation of intelligent worlds; along with robot policeman Gort (Lock Martin), his silvery metal companion, protector, and intergalactic peacekeeper.
