Abstract
Introduction and Objectives: This study describes the associations between PSM and clinical endpoints after radical prostatectomy (RP) in a cohort of South Australian men with prostate cancer (RP). Positive surgical margins (PSM) occur in 13–35% of RP, and are considered an adverse outcome indicting failure of surgery to adequately clear cancer. PSMs confer an increased risk of biochemical recurrence (BCR) compared to a negative surgical margin, but how the more robust clinical endpoints are affected is more controversial. Importantly, a PSM may be an independent trigger for adjuvant radiotherapy, with added morbidity.
