Abstract

Aims:
It was anticipated that COVID-19 lockdowns would force in-person cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs to quickly re-orient to a telehealth model of care. We investigated the experiences of South Australian rural and remote CR services during the COVID-19 lockdowns, and compared patient outcomes in 2020 to outcomes from 2019.

Methods:
A mixed methods approach was used. Qualitative data was collected using surveys inviting sites to report on the effect of the COVID-19 lockdowns on their rehabilitation programs. Quantitative data was extracted from the ‘Country Access to Cardiac Health’ (CATCH) project database which collects information on all South Australian patients referred for CR. Records of patient referrals and engagement with rehabilitation programs were collected for February to July 2020. Additional data was collected for the same period in 2019 for comparison.
