Abstract
The formation of sand 'beach ridges' formed on open-ocean, microtidal Australian coasts is reviewed. Two major theories of evolution have been proposed, one suggesting a marine origin, the other an aeolian origin. New data are presented on the modern evolution of 'beach ridges' at Myall Lakes, NSW, and Cervantes, WA, which strongly supports an aeolian genesis.-Author
