Abstract
Dear Secretariat
SUBMISSION TO THE INQUIRY INTO THE AUTOMOTIVE TRANSFORMATION SCHEME (ATS)
I have pleasure in making this submission to the Inquiry, which concerns matters of acute and immediate and long-term importance to South Australia and northern Adelaide, as well as to the Nation.
The Australian Workplace Innovation and Social Research Centre (WISeR) has over a long period conducted detailed, applied and practical research into the drivers of industrial growth and decline, as well as into effective policy and strategic responses to major shocks, such as the closure of the automotive industry.
WISeR contributed to the Committee’s inquiry into Australia’s Innovation System earlier this year, with a submission, Manufacturing and Innovation. The concerns of that earlier submission, together with the documents that accompanied it, are of the utmost relevance to the Committee’s present inquiry into the ATS, and to our present submission, The Future of the Automotive Transformation Scheme. I would ask that the Committee have regard to these earlier documents in its consideration of the ATS. These documents are attached to The Future of the Automotive Transformation Scheme1.
