The Mountain Will Not Move: Rolf de Heer's The Survival of Kindness

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Following a woman’s slow journey through an unforgiving landscape, Rolf de Heer’s first feature in almost a decade depicts a violent post-apocalyptic society firmly divided along racial lines. As Nicholas Godfrey writes, the film reflects both de Heer’s distinctively minimalist aesthetic sensibilities and his ongoing interest in exploring experiences of marginalisation and disadvantage, particularly through collaborative storytelling.
