    Abstract

    Attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of contemporary public health practice. Topics covered include - the definition and history of public health, research methods, the ideologies, politics and ethics of public health, patterns of health, illness and mortality in Australia and overseas, the health of the environment and future directions in public health. The author is Professor and Head of Department of Public Health at Flinders University. She is also President of the Australian Public Health Association and Director of the South Australian Community Health Research Unit.
