Abstract
This comprehensive encyclopedia aims to support those experienced in the Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) community, those new to the CALL community and those wishing to join the CALL community to understand the level of complexity and nuance in the field, as well as its subdivisions. Through 17 broad sections covering topics including the foundations and history of the field, pedagogical implications, assessment and teacher education, cultural and social aspects, and the impact and influence of emerging technologies and AI, the encyclopedia surveys key theories, knowledge, and practice in CALL to make the field more transparent and inclusive.
The field recognised today as Computer-Assisted Language Learning has undergone and continues to undergo extensive development, making it a complex and dynamic area which presents a challenge to CALL teachers, teacher-researchers, and academics who are expected to continuously stay up to date with these developmentswhilst also grasping past phases and trends in the field (Hubbard, 2008a, 2009a).
This reference work will be an essential resource for CALL and TESOL (student) teachers, researchers and academics, policymakers, course designers and curriculum leads, as well as other language education, online education and language assessment specialists.
