Abstract
The effect of oxygen on the lattice parameters of lanthanum, praseodymium an and terbium nitrides at 1500°C has been determined. Particular attention was given to sample characterization, and a simple analytical method was used for oxygen determination. The lattice parameters of lanthanum and terbium oxynitrides decrease linearly with increasing oxygen content, whereas for praseodymium a linear decrease was obtained only for oxygen contents greater than that in PrN0.87O0.13. Oxynitride preparations of erbium and holmium were inhomogeneous and Vegard plots were not obtained.
