Training Caregivers to Respond to Sexual Behaviour in People Living with Dementia

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) can include sexual behaviours that pose significant challenges for people living with dementia and their caregivers (Eshmawey, 2022). Sexuality in older adults, including those with dementia, can be a complex and taboo topic, resulting in a lack of understanding, resources and support (Syme, 2017). This article explores the nature and impact of these behaviours and outlines key considerations in training caregivers in a positive behaviour support (PBS) approach.
