Abstract

A power reaching law sliding mode controller (PRL-SMC) is proposed in this work for improving the single-machine-infinite-bus (SMIB) power system's transient stability. The PRL-SMC is employed on a second-order SG system which is linearized and reduced to a second-order system using a partial feedback linearized control scheme. For showing the proposed excitation controller's robustness, external disturbances are also included. Hence, the designed controller not only eliminates the unexpected chattering problem which usually appears due to the discontinuous switching function but also enhances the transient performance against severe disturbances. The system's overall stability is proved by using the theory of Lyapunov functions. Finally, for demonstrating the proposed excitation controller's effectiveness, simulation results are presented and compared with partial feedback linearize controller (PFLC).
