Abstract
Early oesophageal cancers and early gastric cancers (EGCs) are defined as tumours limited to the mucosa or submucosa (T1 stage) and do, by definition, not invade the muscularis propria. This is irrespective of the presence of lymph node metastasis.1 This chapter deals with the management of early upper gastrointestinal neoplasms, which is described in two parts: early oesophageal cancer (part A) and EGC (part B).
