Abstract

- Intensive Sleep Retraining is a technique that is as effective at resolving insomnia symptoms as first-line behavioral techniques but achieves these benefits after a single day rather than multiple weeks.
- The multiple rapid sleep onsets experienced during the treatment session, compelled by increasing homeostatic sleep drive and circadian-optimal times for sleep, are thought to extinguish conditioned insomnia for patients with sleep initiation difficulties.
- Wearable technology has been developed to enable the administration of Intensive Sleep Retraining in the home environment, improving its accessibility to insomnia patients.
- Pending further testing with this technology across various populations, Intensive Sleep Retraining may be used as an adjunctive therapy to produce rapid sleep improvements.
