Abstract

This study uses an experimental approach to investigate the relationship between metal-on-metal and ceramic/metal tribocorrosive behaviours. A set of tribocorrosion experiments were conducted on Ti6Al4V/ceramic, ceramic/CoCrMo, and Ti6Al4V/CoCrMo couples. The anodic current profiles for all the studied material combinations were provided to facilitate the estimation of the tribocorrosion current, under different test parameters. A linear regression method was used to estimate the relationship between the current of Ti6Al4V/CoCrMo combination and the corresponding ceramic/metal currents. The generated equation was then used to estimate the contribution of each metallic surface to the total current. It was found that the fraction of the metallic counterparts’ contributions to the total current is highly dependent on the working potential.
