Abstract

Combination approaches for HIV infection are a true pharmacological success story but treatment remains complex. The remarkable efficacy of the cART approach is balanced by a need for strict adherence, drug resistance, access and toxicity. Given the need for critical attention to adherence and a need for close monitoring related to the emergence of toxicities, ongoing communication is an essential element of any HIV health care plan and pharmacists can play an important role in multidisciplinary teams.
